Dr. Sarpong is the Chancellor of the University for Professional Studies, Accra, and the immediate past Chief Executive Officer for the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC). He is a Chartered Accountant and holds a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Industrial & Business Studies from the University of Warwick (England). He attended the University of Ghana where he obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree in Business Administration and a Master of Business Administration (MBA). He was also awarded a Master of Arts (MA) in Ministry from the Trinity Theological Seminary, Accra, a Master of Accountancy (M.Acc.) in International Accounting and Multinational Financial Management from the University of Glasgow (Scotland). Dr. Sarpong has been in executive management for nearly thirty-five (35) years. He was Chief Accountant and General Manager, Ghana Food Distribution Corporation (1983-1990), Deputy Managing Director, Produce Buying Company Limited (1990-1994), Deputy Chief Executive, of Ghana Cocoa Board (1994-1998), Head of Administrative & Financial Services Division, International Cocoa Organisation London (1999-2003), Deputy Managing Director and Managing Director, Tema Oil Refinery (2003-2009), Executive Chairman, Kumasi Asante Kotoko Football Club (2010-2013), Group Chief Executive, Global Haulage Group Limited (2014-2016). Since January 2017, Dr. Sarpong has served as Chief Executive of Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC). A result-oriented person, Dr. Sarpong carried out relevant initiatives in the organizations mentioned above to turn around their fortunes. In September 2020, he was appointed National Ambassador for Vocational and Technical Training by the Koforidua Technical University. Significantly, Dr. Sarpong has had an extensive Board exposure in twenty-six (26) organisations spanning financial services, transportation, manufacturing, commerce, mining, energy, education, NGOs and sports. Notable among these organisations are Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, Global Haulage Group, The Royal Bank, Tema Oil Refinery, Kumasi Asante Kotoko Football Club, Ghana Cocoa Board, Produce Buying Company Limited, State Gold Mining Corporation, Ghana Food Distribution Corporation, State Insurance Company, Imperial General Assurance, Ghana Commercial Bank, Sahel Bank, Merchant Bank (now UMB Bank), Aluworks, Action Aid, Café Direct (UK) and Institute of Charted Accountants, Ghana. He was recently appointed Chairman of the Advisory Board of the New Petroleum Producers Group for a two-year term. Dr. Sarpong is very much concerned about service to the community and humanity in general. He devotes his own resources to educate persons who show academic promise and assist persons with disabilities. His favourite charity is the Physically Challenged Action Foundation at Offinso in the Ashanti Region. Wherever Dr. Sarpong has worked, his pursuit of service to humanity has reflected in the delivery of Corporate Social Responsibility of the respective organisation.
